“Lift Every Voice!”; Jeffrey Sartain, July 23, 2017

“Today, we are celebrating the music of the African American tradition, and when we do that we need to be honest that there have been deep divisions in this country,” Jeff preached. “We can celebrate together, and we can feel warmth and love for one another, and—at the same time—we can also be real about the pain and suffering that is expressed in African American music along with the deepest kind of joy. We can celebrate, and we can be real about the ways our predominantly white culture has been and is still part of the struggle of minority communities.” Listen now to his reflections interspersed with songs of justice.
