“The Warhorse is Dead”; Gary W. Smith’s sermon, May 31, 2015

As a veteran and a minister, Gary Smith reflected on peace in his Sunday sermon. “Our nation’s endless wars must cease . . . thousands more troops on the ground in the Middle East is not going to stop a religious civil war that has raged off and on for centuries. . . . I’m beginning to hear a distant drumbeat calling for more boots on the ground, which in the long run will place our nation in harm’s way, rather than protect and serve our national interest.” Listen to the entire sermon now.

What a powerful message that defines in terms relevant today-the absurdity of resorting to acts of
war and violence to “‘combat the problems of peace”. It truly is a challenging proposition to understand the basis for conflict between nations and peoples. In lieu of war, couldn’t we encourage greater cooperation and appreciation amongst nations?
Thank you, Gary, for so clearly stating the need to seek the ways of peace.as well as reminding us that our acts of kindness could be life transforming for others.
